Drifting Apart...

The Police never actually split up it was more a drifting apart as each of the band pursued their own solo career once the Synchronicity tour ended in March 1984. After a brief reunion in 1986 to play 3 concerts they performed a studio session to re-record some of their recordings, which is noted as being very tense.

Sting and Trudie Styler married in 1992 and naturally Summers and Copeland were invited to the ceremony. Pressured by the guests into playing they performed “message in a bottle” and “Roxanne” which appeared to heal the rift of ’86.

In March 2003 The Police were added to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and performed "Message In a Bottle", "Roxanne" and "Every Breath You Take" live, as a group.

In 2004 Henry Padovani released an album. One of the tracks included performances by Stewart Copeland and Sting.

In 2006 Stewart Copeland made a rock documentary about the band called “Everyone Stares: The Police Inside Out”. It was based around his own filming on super 8 film he did when the band were recording in the 70's and 80’s and when they were touring.
Andy Summers' autobiography “One Train Later” was released in October 2006

Also in 2006, Sting released "Songs From The Labyrinth" an album of 16th century classical music written by John Dowland.
